Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time administrative and/or research experience (research experience as part of a doctoral training program may be considered).

Preferred Qualifications:
Four or more years (4+) of full-time administrative and/or research experience (research experience as part of a doctoral training program may be considered). Experience in spreadsheet management, e-mail, internet research, and/or word processing applications (Microsoft Office/Google Apps). Experience working in a higher education or academic medical setting. Experience in grants administration, specifically with internal seed grant programs. Experience with federal and/or state grant proposal development and/or submission. Experience developing or managing budgets.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Office of Proposal Development (OPD) is one of six units within the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) whose mission is to support Stony Brook's research and scholarly community in their pursuit of extramural funding. One of OPD's major activities to support the development and submission of highly competitive proposals to external sponsors is facilitating a number of seed grant cycles on an annual basis. The Research Development Coordinator will manage the pre-award process for all seed grant programs funded by OVPR. The successful incumbent will provide high-level administrative support for a number of other research development activities on campus, including fact-finding and asset mapping efforts in high priority research areas, among other major initiatives and events.
The Research Development Coordinator will serve as a key member of the Office of Proposal Development team, which is led by the Associate Vice President for Research. The successful candidate will have outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; be an independent self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving and the ability to effectively multi-tasking in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment with a high degree of accuracy and organization.

Manage the OVPR Seed Grant Program and all related special initiative seed grant programs through the following activities:
Coordinate the dissemination of seed grant opportunity announcements to relevant groups on campus.
Create and maintain the application submission portals.
Respond to questions about eligibility and application process; advise applicants on their proposal preparation to ensure compliance with the program guidelines and to assist in the development of competitive proposals.
Review all submissions for compliance and coordinate multiple levels of review for each cycle.
Collect and analyze the scores and comments from the review panel.
Handle award notifications and all related administrative responsibilities.
Work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs and the Office of Grants Management to provide post-award support for seed grant Principal Investigators.
Coordinate the collection and analysis of progress reports throughout the life of all OVPR seed grant awards.
Provide exceptional customer service to faculty in both pre- and post-award stages.
Lead the internal evaluation of the impact of all OVPR seed grant programs by analyzing progress reports in a way that creates meaningful statistical results.
Effectively communicate the impact of the seed grant program through written reports, presentations, press releases, etc.
Maintain internal databases to track seed grant award status and program results.
Create and maintain program websites.
Stay abreast of other seed grant programs at Stony Brook University as well as outside institutions to serve as a resource for faculty, to improve the effectiveness of OVPR seed grant initiatives, to ensure that we have the most fair and efficient review process, and to recommend/develop new types of seed grant programs for OVPR to offer.
Document all program procedures and make program improvement recommendations to Research Development Specialists.
Coordinate workshops and events to feature seed grant projects and related initiatives to further advance the research of seed grant Principal Investigators.
Lead the OVPR's administrative support of special research development initiatives through the following:
Manage communications with key faculty members and the broader research community.
Provide administrative support to ensure that task force members have the necessary resources to move research initiatives forward.
Attend regular meetings with the faculty and administration to take notes and coordinate follow up activities.
Lead the planning and execution of events (both virtual and in-person).
Lead the progress reporting and analysis of research development initiatives to share with University leadership.
Clearly communicate the outcomes of research development initiatives through written reports and PowerPoint presentations.
Support Research Development team members on the following:
Identify and share funding opportunities relevant to the Stony Brook research community.
Support the administrative submission and review of large-scale collaborative and/or interdisciplinary proposals.
Coordinate external consultancy services for graphic design and proposal editing as well as the implementation and maintenance of new services/programs.
Plan and execute special events.
Assist in office management activities such as coordinating staff meetings, maintaining the OPD calendar and website, and processing procurement transactions.
Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
