    Department Summary
The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is a large and complex college that offers the core liberal arts and sciences curriculum at the University of Oregon. The research activity and reputation of CAS faculty is the basis for the UO's status as a Carnegie Research I institution and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). All tenure-related faculty in CAS, across the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences divisions, are required to be engaged in an active research program and make original contributions to their respective fields of knowledge. To support these research programs, CAS units are responsible for managing approximately $55 million in research grants from federal, state, and foundation sources.

The CAS Center for Research Services (CCRS) is a grant and research support center that provides comprehensive services to CAS departments and programs across the three academic divisions. Under the umbrella of a new CAS Business Office (CBO), CCRS works closely with faculty principal investigators (PIs) as well as UO administrative officials, CAS Academic Support Unit associate directors, business managers, and affiliated organizations such as the UO Foundation -- to provide services in two main areas: 1) Pre-Award, and 2) Post-Award.
    Position Summary
The Post-Award Director ("Director") reports to the Senior Director, CBO and works collaboratively with the Pre-Award Director to provide vision, support, and leadership on all matters related to post-award administration of sponsored projects and internal research awards. This position will hire, develop, and supervise a team of Research Administrative Coordinator(s), and grant and/or accounting technicians, who perform critical post-award tasks across the lifespan of extramurally-sponsored projects as well as internal research awards.

This position requires an extensive knowledge of and experience in federal post-award grants administration, as it will bear responsibility in excess of $35 million in research awards belonging to approximately 70 tenure-track and tenured faculty supported by CCRS. The portfolio managed by CCRS is expected to grow as CAS transitions to a shared services model for providing grant administrative support to students, faculty, and staff.

The Director will provide day-to-day management of the post-award team including assignments and direct supervision of the team's workload and quality. The Director will have assignments as well and will act as a subject matter expert, advising CCRS staff and the CAS research community on a variety of areas impacted by or relating to post-award research administration. In support of this role, the Director will continually seek professional development by attending relevant workshops, webinars, and other training opportunities.

The Director will evaluate and mentor post-award personnel and assist with the development and implementation of training as needed to ensure that work is conducted consistently and accurately. The Director, in consultation with the Pre-Award Director, will draft, revise, and update written standard operating procedures and templates for post-award functions and will provide post-award metrics and other reports as needed to the Senior Director, CBO. The Director will manage, lead and complete special projects and other duties as required by the Senior Director. Additionally, the Director will liaise and work closely with central university research support offices.

In collaboration with the Pre-Award Director, this position is responsible for organizational change management and strategic planning to lead innovation in the functions and structure of the CCRS. The Director will supervise three or more employees, including Officers of Administration and/or classified employees represented by the SEIU. Because this position is responsible for implementing change to the status quo, the successful candidate will be a skilled supervisor or have experience as a team or multi-project lead who listens to and empowers other members of the team, as well as a with a good balance of empathy and ability to hold others accountable.
