Salary range for this position is: $70,000/yr. - $90,000/yr. (depending on experience)

As a Director of Grants & Strategic Initiatives, you will be responsible for being a key member of the team that leads the grant process and working with colleagues to ensure that the college meets various grant requirements.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships, the Director of Grants and Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for providing crucial support for fulfilling the college's mission by securing external funds through successful grant proposals to federal and state agencies, foundations, corporations, and other organizations. The position is responsible for coordination of grant applications, including evaluating potential funding opportunities, working collaboratively to develop competitive projects that address college needs, writing proposals, and coordinating post-award support to ensure successful implementation of funded grants. In additional to grant development and management, this position provides key institutional leadership of strategic college initiatives supported by external funding sources and assists the office of Strategic Partnerships in the leadership of specific grant-funded initiatives that achieve target outcomes and institutional strategic plan objectives.

What you will be working on:
  • Conduct research related to needs assessment and background information for proposal development, as well as programmatic research required for writing comprehensive grant proposals in order to secure grant funding.
  • Analyze funding organization requirements and anticipate the college's competitive position for each opportunity.
  • Primary responsibility for the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals and preparation of budgets including identifying standard line-item costs where applicable for staffing, space, and material.
  • Ensure grant proposal budgets adhere to all applicable campus, district, and state policies and requirements; assume fiscal management responsibilities as assigned.
  • Provide technical assistance to deans, directors, managers and faculty in planning, writing, program design, budget development, and evaluation.
  • Manage the reporting of award funds; develop and implement fiscal policies and procedures that adhere to all applicable campus, district, and state policies and requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee grant implementation including instruction on internal procedures and funding agency compliance, assistance with all issues of financial, personnel, payroll, purchasing, and administration of funded awards.
  • Work with administrators, staff and faculty to identify and resolve budget and compliance issues.
  • Serve as liaison with funding source program and contract officers, resource developers nationally, and with community organizations.
  • Support grant managers or project directors as needed.
  • Dissemination of information about external funding opportunities and other grants-related information.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with college faculty, staff, administrators, and community organizations, public and private agencies, and other professionals associated with the development and operation of grants and contracts.
  • Provide periodic updates on grant-funded projects to the appropriate committees, councils, boards and to the campus.
  • Research and identify viable external funding opportunities that match the college's mission, goals, and strategic priorities.
  • Support strategic planning processes, including assisting with evaluation scoring and external analysis.
  • Attend college meetings, seminars, and activities as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively across the district and lead (as directed) projects and initiatives in support of student success.
  • Work in collaboration with the District office on special grant projects and requests.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in English, education, public/educational administration, or related field.
  • Three or more years of experience as the primary author of recent successful grant proposals for federal state, and /or private agencies, preferably in higher education.
  • Ability to work independently, manage coordinate multiple projects with minimal supervision, and maintain high quality work products that meet critical deadlines.
  • Experience coordinating staff and consultants.
  • Experience in building partnerships within institutions and among community stakeholders.
  • Experience with preparing and managing budgets.
  • Proficiency in research, interpretation, and analysis of data.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Applications, databases, and online research software and tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
