The Director of Grants Development provides leadership for the Bunker Hill Community College grants program and is responsible for overseeing grant research, writing and submission of grant proposals in support of the College's strategic priorities and goals. Primary duties involve researching and identifying grant funding opportunities; preparing annual plans for proposal development; facilitating decision-making processes on emerging opportunities; regularly convening grant program idea/project groups; and preparing and submitting grant proposals. Further, the Director will work closely with key stakeholders across BHCC to develop funding proposals based on strategic priorities, after careful consideration of potential costs, sustainability, projected outcomes, and impacts.



Grant Research, Identification, and Outreach Duties:



  • Identify public and private funding opportunities, monitoring various online and print publications and websites for source information, at the local, state, and national level.
  • Review and interpret funding solicitations and announcements from public and private funding sources, and remain current on funding trends and themes.
  • Develop and update the annual grant development plan based on the College's strategic priorities and most recent funding available.
  • Develop grant activity to align with College Strategic Initiatives.
  • Assess College and community need through networking and interviews, make policy recommendations on projects to pursue.
  • Support faculty and staff in efforts to secure external funding for departmental and interdisciplinary curricular, research, and outreach programs and projects in alignment with College strategic and budget priorities.
  • Attend technical assistance workshops and bidders conferences for prospective grant projects.
  • Provide technical assistance for faculty and staff on interpreting guidelines and regulations related to the submission and administration of grant projects.


Grant Development Duties:



  • Review, update, and implement college policies, procedures, and standards for internal grant development.
  • Lead senior staff, faculty, and stakeholders in the planning and preparation of project designs, project evaluation design, and resource allocation.
  • Form grant development teams for grant proposals, and work collaboratively with teams to move concept to a final proposal ready for submission.
  • Manage and lead teams for assigned proposals, write proposal sections.
  • Work with faculty/staff to develop programmatic aspects of grant proposals.
  • Work with faculty/staff to develop project budgets in accordance with appropriate funding regulations and College policies.
  • Develop proposal and institutional match budgets in collaboration with fiscal personnel for new and continuing grants.
  • Coordinate proposal development/submission activity with internal stakeholders (Grants Management, Administration, Facilities, Human Resources).
  • Serve as primary liaison to funding agencies in the development of grant proposals.
  • Ensure that assigned projects are completed and submitted in accordance with funding agency directions and College policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate initial post-award meeting with new grant directors in collaboration with Grants Management to transition grant from the development/award phase to the implementation phase.


Other Duties



  • Participate in college-wide strategic planning.
  • Review multi-year grant commitments to assess project budget sustainability, funding gaps, need/potential for additional resources in coordination with the Finance office.
  • Proactively interpret and assess individual grant program gaps, provide technical assistance as necessary, and surface and address issues for College leadership team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's or graduate degree in a related field
  • 7 + years of experience with grant proposal development
  • Documented experience as primary writer and editor in development of Federal, state, private grant applications as evidenced by writing portfolio and history of funding success.
  • Higher education/community college grant writing experience
  • Ability to lead institution through setting and revising policies and procedures while brokering buy-in from all stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability prioritize multiple tasks under pressure of frequent deadlines required.
  • Knowledge of effective grant-writing procedure
  • Knowledge of and ability to research grants electronically and through print sources.
  • Strong program, budget, evaluation design, and editing experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience and proficient ability in leading diverse work teams and in facilitating meetings.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement to plan and prioritize workload.


Additional Information:

Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $95,000.00
