Job Summary:

Join the Colorado School of Public Health as the Assistant/Associate Director Research and Grants Administration. The Assistant/Associate Director of Research and Grants Administration is a pivotal role within the Colorado School of Public Health Administration team, responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and oversight of research and grants administration functions. This position plays a crucial role in advancing the school's mission by facilitating and managing research initiatives, grant applications, and funding opportunities. The Assistant/Associate Director of Research and Grants Administration will bring a combination of research expertise, grants administration proficiency, and strong leadership skills to lead a team of professionals in achieving the school's research initiatives and funding goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy, Vision, and Direction Setting
  • Ensure adherence to vision created by the ColoradoSPH, Associate Dean of Research and ColoradoSPH research committee
  • Implementation and oversight of the ColoradoSPH mission of excellence in research set forth by the AD for Research as it pertains to pre-award and post award administration services
  • Advocate for ColoradoSPH to central Anschutz offices such as Office of Grants and Contracts, Anschutz Finance Office , and Anschutz Budget
  • As policy and processes change ensure the ColoradoSPH has the appropriate strategy and infrastructure to adhere to new regulations
  • Work with unit leaders and PIs to develop a grant submission strategy to meet the salary recommendations provided by analyses conducted by the Associate Dean for Administration and Finance and the Associate dean of Faculty for salary equity, market compression and retention.
  • Monitor grant proposal and award activity within the ColoradoSPH, understand the pipeline, the routing, any obstacles and advocate and implement changes in strategy.

Continual Process Improvement
  • Create an online hub of resources and trainings that is consistently updated and communicated for all research administrators to access
  • Create "how to" guides and process maps that are continuously updated for use by school units
  • Create templates for: monthly and annual research reporting and data maintenance by PI, unit, sponsor, application success rate, funding totals, projections, and other relevant research grant elements
  • Leverage technology such as smartsheets or onbase to maximize efficiency in research administration processes
  • Problem solve efficiencies to build effectiveness and continuous opportunities to grow the school's grant portfolio
  • Develop in-person and virtual grant process orientation for new faculty and staff, as well as development of periodic trainings as necessitated by policy and process changes.
  • Review and update current ColoradoSPH research related policies and establishment of new policies to improve pre- and post-award processes.

Communication
  • Responsible for alignment of vision for each unit, the school's central Administration (Dean, Associate Dean of Research, staff), the research committee and the faculty.
  • Build a culture of teamwork and collaboration across unit leaders and corresponding pre award and post award team
  • Disseminating information from Central Anschutz campus wide financial offices to ColoradoSPH units such as policy or regulation changes, Conflict of Interest Reporting, and other financial or budgeting communications
  • Communication to all ColoradoSPH Principal Investigators about school research grant administrative services offered; establish accountability and open communication from Principal Investigators of services received.
  • Communicate to each unit about equitable pre and post award service that include plans for back up and are inclusive of all faculty ranks and tracks

Compliance, Accountability, and Reporting
  • Responsible for establishing role clarity between the unit, the office of grants and contracts, the pre award and post award staff within the unit, and the Principal Investigator as it pertains to proposal development, speedtype set up, subcontract set up, non-competing continuations, post award such as invoice acceptance, invoice payment and invoice processing and reconciliation, monitoring personnel effort, corresponding pay roll expense transfers, procurement in concur or in marketplace, forecasting, cash balances and speedtype closeouts, etc
  • Establish metrics, tracking, and reporting for quality control of pre award and post award services offered to Principal Investigators
  • Work closely with the office of the AD of Research to ensure consistent reporting of proposal applications, research awards, and other key indicators describing the School's research portfolio
  • Advise units on Facilities and Administration/ Indirect Cost Recovery (ICR)sharing agreements. Collect and organize the agreements to facilitate distribution and collection of F&A between ColoradoSPH and other Anschutz units or across ColoradoSPH units.
  • Provide school level guidance about Electronic Personnel Effort Reporting (ePERs) reporting
  • This is a full-time position that reports to the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance at the Colorado School of Public Health.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Assistant Director: 4 years of extensive, diverse, and progressively responsible experience at the management level, including direct responsibility for grant administration.
  • Associate Director: 6 years of extensive, diverse, and progressively responsible experience at the management level, including direct responsibility for grant administration.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A master's degree in business, business administration, finance, accounting, education, social sciences, healthcare administration, public administration, communications, information systems, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) years of progressively complex and responsible professional level experience in financial, administration or program management.
  • Experience with sponsor proposal submission and award administration requirements and processes.
  • Advanced experience working with internal and external entities in the management and administration of sponsored projects.
  • Advanced experience and knowledge in Excel spreadsheets is preferred including at least three (3) years of experience monitoring the financial status of a higher education or governmental organization.
  • Experience and skills in use of formulas to develop reports within MS Excel is an aspect of this position. Working knowledge of Principals and practices of budgeting, accounting and financial management.
  • Experience in the administration of sponsored programs at a variety of levels of the organization is strongly preferred.
  • Experience and skills in use of CU systems (InfoEd, HCM, CU-Data, CU-Finance).

Anticipated Salary Range:

The starting target salary for this position has been established as:

Assistant Director: $82,343 - $104,741

Associate Director: $90,546 - $115,000

The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
