Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Associates degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of field experience in wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance with plumbing-related work. Working knowledge of plumbing for small diameter PVC pipes and peristaltic pumps. Working knowledge of minor electrical repairs, including branch circuits and receptacle replacements.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related fields. Additional years (4+) of field experience in wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance with plumbing-related work. Experience/basic understanding of residential, electrical standards. Experience in wastewater fields, onsite or treatment plants.

Brief Description of Duties:
The New York State Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) at Stony Brook University operates a Wastewater Research and Innovation Facility (WRIF) where raw wastewater is used to test new wastewater treatment processes for onsite wastewater treatment systems. The facility is approximately one mile from the main campus at the site of an existing sewage pumping station owned by Suffolk County. The incumbent will be responsible for keeping work areas clean and organized, performing light yard work, and ordering of consumables and general facility supplies. The position involves working and collaborating with scientists and graduate students from the CCWT and prospectively representative of manufacturers of commercial wastewater treatment equipment.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Assist in design and installation of upgrades to research trailer upgrades, improvements and repairs.
  • Coordinate with excavation, plumbing, electrical and equipment professionals.
  • Coordinate with and assist prospective commercial manufacturers with pilot-scale wastewater treatment installations.
  • Support scientists at the facility to design and install the experiments, such as tubing, valves, tanks, and other appurtenances making up the system. Oversee the experimental system installation, coordinate with sampling and conduct basic onsite wastewater measurements with field instruments and sensors.
  • Provide as-needed repairs and maintenance of the facility, including basic plumbing, pumps, and piping systems.
  • Administrative duties to include ordering consumables and general facility supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Special Notes:
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a part-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
