About the Position:
The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) works with other units throughout campus to seek external support for faculty research, creative activity and institutional projects that support the educational and service mission of the university. ORSP staff assist with proposal development, proposal submission to external funding agencies, post award support, and help to assure that research and sponsored programs are conducted in accordance with the highest ethical and regulatory standards. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as an Assistant Director, Grants and Contracts. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Assistant Director of Grants and Contracts assists, supports, advises, and represents the Director and the Office of Grants and Contracts (OGC) by performing administrative and management duties requiring initiative and sound judgment. Assists the Director in day-to-day operational management of office staff to ensure efficiency in OGC operations. Provides consultation to, and assists faculty, administrators and staff in the preparation and submission of diverse proposals. Drafts and/or reviews and negotiates award documents, such as contracts and cooperative agreements, subawards or subcontracts, Memoranda of Understanding, Non-disclosure Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, and other similar or related documents. Plans, develops, organizes implements and serves as expert trainer, when appropriate, and participates in planning and conducting Office of Grants and Contracts staff training and specialized campus-wide educational training programs, workshops, and seminars related to grants and contracts. Serves as direct supervisor of select OGC staff and oversees daily operations of the department. Assists the Director in data management and production of appropriate reports for both internal and external use. In the absence of the Director, represents the OGC and serve as OGC Director's designee at administrative functions including meetings with Deans and Directors, the Associate Vice President and upper management or their representatives/designees. Serves as Directors' designee, as needed. Performs other duties as assigned


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university. At least seven years experience in research administration at a university, hospital or research institute, preferably in a pre-award office, with progressive sponsored administration or leadership duties. Proven experience in pre-award administration including, but not limited to, review of sponsor guidelines/RFPs, preparation of complex budgets, and compilation/completion and submission of proposals to federal, state and other funding agencies. Extensive experience in issuance, review, preparation, and negotiation of complex contracts, cooperative agreements and other agreements. Knowledge of FAR and DFAR, Uniform Guidance CFR Part 200, and other federal & state regulations.

Extensive computer applications experience in Microsoft Office specifically word processing, excel, data management, and internet/web use. A team player with sound judgment, strong writing skills and exceptional interpersonal skills; experience dealing tactfully and effectively with faculty and staff working under stress and pressure of short deadlines and multiple projects.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university. Experience using the CAYUSE S2S system.
